:> Coastal Lowlands - Quy Nhon

Qui Nhon is a quiet seaside city in the centre of Vietnam. It is the capital of the Binh Dinh province and as of 1999 its population was 240,000. The capital was born offically for more than 100 years ago, however, its forming and developing history goes with to 11th century Champa culture, Tay Son dynasty and Thi Nai seaport from 18th century.

Historically the primary commercial activities of the city have focused around agriculture and fishing. However, nowadays, Qui Nhon is recognised as the second-grade city with a geography priority, a seaport, a developing city infrastructure. The city is one the three commercial and tourism centres in the coastal southern centre region with Danang and Nha Trang.

Qui Nhon has a lot of different areas, its geography landscape is very diversified such as mountains and forests, hills, fields, salt-marshes, plains, lagoons, lakes, rivers, coasts, peninsulas, and islands….Qui Nhon’s coast-line is 42km with a big lagoon area, brackish water lake and abundant sea creature resource. One of its main attractions is the fishing village of Ghenh Rang, 2km from the city center. The area is nestled between a steep mountain and the East sea.

At the foot of Ghenh Rang is a quiet, secluded stretch of sand, known as Queen beach, noted for its variety of round stones that look like eagle’s eggs. According the local legend, Queen Nam Phuong chose the beach for her own use while following King Bao Dai on a trip to the central region.

Other attractions are Phuong Mai Peninsula and Thi Nai Lagoon in the eastern part of the city. Ham Ho valley is a beautiful fresh water spot with many big stones winding through old forests in Tay Son district, 55km from Qui Nhon. Ham Ho is famous for a variety of fish, especially plentiful when the river rises during flood seasons.

Qui Nhon is also the living testimony of the golden age of the Cham Dynasty with its many awe-inspiring towers that have stood the test of time and nature. Considered priceless cultural vestiges, these beautiful towers bear an aura that is both lively and mysterious.

The annual average temperature in Qui Nhon varies between 26ºC and 28ºC. It is hottest in August and coldest in January. The annual average rainfall is 1,700mm - 1,800mm. The rainy season lasts from August to December.
