Destinations >> Mekong River Delta :> Mekong River Delta - Vinh Long Vinh Long province is located in the heart of the Mekong Delta, between Tien and Hau Rivers. It’s bordered on the north by Tien Giang, on the southwest by Can Tho, on the northeast by Ben Tre and on the northwest by Dong Thap. Vinh Long is about two hours drive from Ca Tho in the adjacent Hau Giang province, and about three hours drive from Ho Chi Minh City. Vinh Long has tropical monsoon climate with rainy and dry seasons and has an annual average temperature of 27°C. Thanks to the Tien and Hau river tributaries of the Mekong River, the soil of Vinh Long is rich in alluvium, favourable for agriculture, aquaculture and horticulture. Vinh Long is famous for its grapefruits, mangoes, mandarins, oranges, longans, rambutants, durians….Travelling in Vinh Long, you’ll have many chances to taste the fresh tiger prawns or elephant fish or basa fish. More than 97% of the popution in Vinh Long is Khmer and Hoa and most engage in farming. Visiting Vinh Long, you can cruise on the Mekong river, visit Cai Be floating market, traditional family-run brick kiln or look at some other traditional cottage industries like ceramics, rice papers, coconut candies, reed sleeping mats… One thing that you can not miss while travelling to Vinh Long, is Cai Be floating market. The market is formed in the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century. It is one of the biggest wholesale markets in the region. Traders live on the river and some link their lives with boats like their mobile house for generations. Cai Be seems to be an inseparable part of their daily lives. The market is divided into two parts: buying and selling places. Rafts and boats are anchored along the two sides of the river for kilometres. From the floating market, goods are shifted for selling at inland markets or small boats take them for delivery along canals in the Plain of Reeds.
