Useful Information >> How to Abtain a Visa With the exception of travellers from a few neighbouring countries, all non-Vietnamese passport holders are required to have a valid visa to enter Vietnam. There are three ways to obtain a tourist visa to enter Vietnam. :> Do it yourself This is only applicable to people living in a country with a Vietnam Embassy. You can visit the Embassy to collect an application form, complete the form and return. After around three working days, the visa will be ready for collection. There are no complications. In some countries, it is possible to have a visa sent by post, but you will have to send your passport to the Embassy for validation. It'll cost about US$25 or US$30 per visa, and the Embassy will levy a service charge on top. To find out how much the Embassy charges, and whether the Embassy will issue a visa by post, you should ring the Embassy and ask for the Visa Section. :> Visa-in-advance We will send you a form in which you're required to send us basic information such as your name, birthday, passport number, place of birth and so on. We will then apply the form to the Immigration Office in Hanoi. After about five working days, we will receive an Approval Letter and fax it to the Vietnam Embassy in your country. You can then send your passport by post to the embassy with a cheque for the visa fee, or collect it in person. You would ring the Embassy to arrange a time for collection. :> Visa-on-arrival Visa-on-arrival means visa stamped on arrival. You must get visa approval by Vietnam Immigration office in advance. Being misuderstood, many tourists must spend at least 1-2 days at entry gates to arrange the visa. The same to the visa-in-advance, we will send you a form in which you're required to send us basic information such as your name, birthday, passport number, place of birth and so on. We will then apply the form to the Immigration Office in Hanoi. After around five working days, we will receive an Approval Letter. We will then send the approval document direct to you by fax or by scanned attached file. In the extremely unlikely possibility that you’ll be asked about your visa status, the official document will ensure that you’ll have no inconvenience at your departure airport. When you arrive at Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh or Danang airport, just show the Approval Leter to the custom officer and fill in the form to obtain your visa. For this service, we charge US$ 25 per person for the application procedure. You’ll also have to pay a further US$ 25 per person directly to the customs officer for the visa stamp, making the total cost of each visa US$50 per person. For this type of visa, each of you will need one colour passport photograph to give to the immigration officer. :> Bilateral visa exemption agreement Citizens of Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Laos holding valid ordinary passports are exempt from visa requirement and are allowed to stay for not more than 30 days. French citizens holding valid diplomatic passports are exempt from visa requirements when visiting Vietnam and are allowed to stay for up 3 months at one time or on several visits within six months since their first immigration date. Vietnamese citizens holding valid diplomatic passports also enjoy similar privileges. Citizens of Chile and Vietnam holding valid diplomatic or official passports from one of the two countries are exempt from needing entry, exit and transit visas in the other's territory and are allowed to stay for up 60 days on each visit. :> Unilateral visa exemption agreement Visa with 30-day validity is exempted for officials from ASEAN secretariat holding different kinds of passports. Citizens of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Japan and South Korea holding different kinds of passports are exempt from visa requirements and are allowed to stay for not more than 15 days. |
